# Julia Roberts Zodiac Sign: Scorpio, Chart Dated a Day Early

Her Sun was 3°53′ into Scorpio. The record is AA, yet true solar time puts the same instant on 27 October, and the day pillar goes with it.

## Scorpio, three degrees in

Julia Roberts was born on 28 October 1967 at 00:16 eastern daylight time, in Atlanta, Georgia. At that instant the Sun stood at 213.889° of ecliptic longitude, which is 3°53′ into Scorpio.

The boundary is the part worth stating. The Sun entered Scorpio on 23 October at 22:40 in Atlanta, so she arrived four days and 1.6 hours late to the sign, and Sagittarius was still 25 days and 20 hours off. No clock reading can move a Sun that far: an hour of error is 0.04°.

Scorpio, then, and it is the one item here that nobody can argue with.

## The certificate is not the soft spot

Most celebrity charts have a weak hour. This one does not. The Astro-Databank entry carries a Rodden rating of AA, which means the time was taken from a birth record rather than from a memory or an interview, and it has stood for decades without revision.

What the record settles is 00:16. What it leaves open is which date that instant belongs to. Those are two different questions, and only the second one is live.

## Eighty-one minutes, itemised

Three corrections separate the clock on the wall from the sun over Georgia.

Daylight time. October 1967 was still on daylight saving, four hours behind UTC instead of five, so take 60 minutes off.

Longitude. Atlanta sits at 84°23′ west; the eastern zone is drawn at 75°. Nine and a third degrees of offset makes local noon later by 37.5 minutes, so take that off as well.

The equation of time. In late October the sun runs about 16 minutes ahead of mean time, which hands a little back.

00:16 − 60 − 37.5 + 16 = 22:55, on 27 October. The engine records the shift as −81 minutes.

It is worth seeing which term does the work. Daylight time alone lands at 23:16 — a different calendar date already, but still inside the 子 hour that a 23:00 day boundary counts as tomorrow. The 37.5 minutes of longitude, added on top, is what carries the reading back past 23:00 into 亥 at 22:55.

## The same certificate, read twice

Set the two readings side by side.

The year is 丁未 either way. The month is 庚戌 either way: she is nineteen days past 寒露 and 10.9 days short of 立冬, so no argument about hours reaches the month pillar at all.

The day is 乙丑 by the clock and 甲子 by the sun. The hour is 丙子 and 乙亥.

Four of the eight characters change, and two of them sit in the day stem — the character everything else is measured from. As 甲 she is yang wood in a metal month. As 乙 she is yin wood in the same month. The ten gods hanging off her turn over with it: the 丁 in the year reads as Hurting Officer against 甲 and Eating God against 乙, and the 庚 in the month reads as Seven Killings against 甲 and Direct Officer against 乙.

That is a strange thing for one birth certificate to produce. One reading hands you a chart with a Hurting Officer and a Seven Killings in it, which is a difficult, combative sort of frame. The other hands you Eating God and Direct Officer, which is the mildest pair in the system. Same person, same hospital, same minute.

## Why the sign sits still

Eighty-two minutes barely touches the sky. In late October the Sun covers about 0.96° a day, so 82 minutes is 0.055°: 3°53′ becomes 3°50′. Both readings are Scorpio, both by more than three and a half degrees, and neither is anywhere near a boundary a clock could carry her across.

The two systems disagree about what they are measuring. A sign is a position on the ecliptic, so it answers to the Sun. A day pillar is a label pinned to a date, so it answers to the calendar. Move the clock and the sign does not care. Move the date and the pillar changes completely.

## Three lines, not one

Where a day ends is a convention, and there is more than one convention in use.

Midnight. The civil date decides: 28 October gives 乙丑.

The 子 hour. The day turns at 23:00, when the water branch takes over, so a birth at 00:16 on the 28th belongs to the day that began at 23:00 on the 27th — which still resolves to 乙丑.

True solar time. The instant itself is corrected first, and the corrected instant decides. 22:55 on 27 October is 亥, and the day is 甲子.

The first two agree here, which is why this chart looks settled until the third one is applied. None of them corrects the others. They answer different questions: what date does the document name, and where was the sun.

## What the chart holds, and where it stops

Read the solar version: 丁未 庚戌 甲子 乙亥. Yang wood in a metal month, with 子 at the base of the day and 亥 at the hour — two water branches under a wood day master, and no water at all among the four stems.

The engine scores the body at −0.5, which is balanced rather than strong or weak, with water and fire favourable and metal the element to watch. Luck cycles run forward from age 3.7, the direction a yin-year woman gets: 辛亥, 壬子, 癸丑, 甲寅, 乙卯, 丙辰.

Read the clock version and the day master is 乙 and the same cycles start from the same age but under a different master, which is the sort of thing that changes a paid reading's whole tone while leaving the biography untouched.

Is she a Scorpio? Yes, 3°53′ in, under both readings.

Does the birth hour change her sign? No. It changes the day pillar and the hour pillar, and in this case both.

Why does the chart say 27 October? Because at 84°23′ west, midnight on the clock is not midnight by the sun, and the gap is 81 minutes.

## Key points

- Scorpio, 3°53′ into the sign — four days past the boundary, twenty-five days from Sagittarius.
- The record is AA: 28 October 1967, 00:16 EDT, Atlanta, taken from a birth record rather than a recollection.
- True solar time at 84°23′W turns that instant into 22:55 on 27 October, a shift of 81 minutes.
- Year 丁未 and month 庚戌 hold either way; the day moves 乙丑 → 甲子 and the hour 丙子 → 乙亥.
- The sign cannot move: 82 minutes of Sun is 0.055°, so Scorpio either way, by more than three degrees.
