要点(約30秒)
- Nine Goat years still have living people: 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015.
- A child born in 2027 is a Goat, but its first Ben Ming Nian is 2039, not 2027.
- 1967 and 2027 are both 丁未: the same pillar, sixty years apart.
- The Goat is the value relation in 2027; Ox, Dog and Rat are in Tai Sui relations that are not Ben Ming Nian.
- Births between 4 and 19 February 2015 are Goat by the pillar and Horse by the public count.
The short answer
2027 is a Goat year: 丁未, ding wei, the eighth animal on the twelve-year wheel. If the animal of your birth year is the Goat, 2027 is your Ben Ming Nian — the year your own sign comes back around.
The number of people that applies to is smaller than most lists suggest. Nine Goat years still have living people in them: 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 and 2015.
One correction before anything else. A baby born in 2027 is also a Goat, but 2027 is not that baby's Ben Ming Nian — it is the birth year itself. The first one arrives in 2039, twelve years later. Reading "your animal's year" as "the year your animal is named" is the most common error in this topic, and it inflates every list by one entry.
The rest of this page is the table, the ages, and the one thing that makes 2027 unusual: two of those nine birth years are the same pillar, sixty years apart.
The nine Goat years, and the age each one turns
Everything below is counted from 6 February 2027, the day the Goat year opens. Before that date each number is one lower.
| Birth year | Pillar | Turns in 2027 | Nominal age (虚岁) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1919 | 己未 | 108 | 109 |
| 1931 | 辛未 | 96 | 97 |
| 1943 | 癸未 | 84 | 85 |
| 1955 | 乙未 | 72 | 73 |
| 1967 | 丁未 | 60 | 61 |
| 1979 | 己未 | 48 | 49 |
| 1991 | 辛未 | 36 | 37 |
| 2003 | 癸未 | 24 | 25 |
| 2015 | 乙未 | 12 | 13 |
Two age columns, two conventions, and neither is wrong. The third column is the count most English readers use: you turn 48 in 2027 if you were born in 1979, on your birthday. The fourth is 虚岁, which starts at one at birth and adds a year at every New Year — so 49, ticking over on 6 February whether or not your birthday has arrived yet.
They answer different questions. One counts solar years completed; the other counts calendar years you have been present for. Chinese-language sources on Ben Ming Nian almost always use the second, which is why a 48-year-old reading a Chinese page is told they are 49. If a number in this table looks off by one against the source you came from, that is the reason.
Nine generations in the same year
Read down the first column instead of across. In February 2027, nine generations of the same animal are inside the same twelve-month window at once: a child turning 12 and a person turning 108, for exactly the same reason, with no difference in mechanism.
The twelve-year-old is the interesting row. 2015 is the most recent Goat year before 2027, so anyone born in 2015 meets their first Ben Ming Nian in 2027 — the first of what would be eight in an ordinary lifespan. Before 2015 that child was simply a child. The label starts at twelve because twelve is the first time the wheel completes, not because anything about the child changed.
At the other end the table stops being folklore and becomes arithmetic. 108 requires an unusual lifespan. 96 is already rare. A list like this is partly a demographic document: it tells you how far back a living population can reach, and the answer is nine animals in the same year.
1967 and 2027 are the same year twice
Now the second column. 2027 is 丁未. So is 1967. Not similar — identical: same stem, same branch, same element pair, yin fire over earth.
That happens once every sixty years, because the stem cycle is ten and the branch cycle is twelve, and the pair only realigns at their least common multiple. Someone born in 1967 meets the exact pillar of their own birth year again in 2027, at sixty, and then never again in a normal life.
The same pairing runs through the rest of the table, and most lists leave it out:
| Pillar | First | Second |
|---|---|---|
| 己未 | 1919 | 1979 |
| 辛未 | 1931 | 1991 |
| 癸未 | 1943 | 2003 |
| 乙未 | 1955 | 2015 |
| 丁未 | 1967 | 2027 |
Four pairs are two people born sixty years apart who share a birth pillar. The fifth pair is the year itself.
This is also where the red changes meaning. In Chinese custom the sixtieth return is 花甲, the full cycle completed, and it is celebrated with a banquet rather than feared — the colour is worn as a mark of having finished a 甲子, not as a defence against it. Japan marks the same sixtieth return as 還暦, kanreki, and the garment there is red too. Identical arithmetic, opposite emotional register: at twelve red is caution, at sixty red is a party.
One detail belongs to 丁未 alone. The branch 未 hides three stems — 己, 丁 and 乙. In 丁未 the year stem is the same 丁 that sits inside the branch, so the hidden stem comes up to the surface, which is what 透 means in this system. Of the five pillars above only 丁未, 乙未 and 己未 do this; 辛未 and 癸未 do not, because 辛 and 癸 are not among the three stems that 未 carries. It is a small structural difference and it is the reason 2027 is called a Fire Goat rather than just a Goat.
Only the Goat is in Ben Ming Nian in 2027
2027 produces four Tai Sui relations and only one of them is Ben Ming Nian. These four get bundled together constantly, usually under 犯太岁, and the bundling is where most of the confusion about this year lives.
| Animal | Relation to 未 | Ben Ming Nian? |
|---|---|---|
| Goat 未 | 值, value — the year's branch is your own | Yes |
| Ox 丑 | 冲, clash — directly opposite | No |
| Dog 戌 | 破, break, and 刑, punishment | No |
| Rat 子 | 害, harm | No |
An Ox in 2027 is in a clash year. A Dog is in a break-and-punishment year. A Rat is in a harm year. All three are, in folk vocabulary, 犯太岁 — offending the year — and all three get told to take the same precautions. None of them is in Ben Ming Nian, because Ben Ming Nian is not a general word for a difficult year. It is one specific case: the year's branch equals the branch of your birth year.
The distinction matters for reading your own situation honestly. If you are an Ox, 2027 is not your zodiac year coming back. Nothing has come back. Something is opposite you, which is a different sentence with different content.
干支と五行を読む——無料The Goat born on the seam
The Goat year has two starting lines in 2027, and they sit 38 hours apart.
| Boundary | 2027 | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| 立春 Lichun | 4 February, 09:46 Beijing | the year pillar a chart reads |
| 春节 New Year's Day | 6 February | the year the calendar and the newspaper use |
A baby born inside that window is a Goat by every public count and a Horse by the pillar a chart would assign. Its first Ben Ming Nian then splits in two: 2039 by the calendar, 2038 by the chart. One year and one animal apart, from a birth date that no one would describe as unusual.
The reverse case is the one that matters for 2027. In 2015, Lichun fell on 4 February and New Year's Day on 19 February — a fifteen-day gap. Anyone born in that gap is a Goat by the pillar and a Horse by the public count. In 2027 they are in their Ben Ming Nian according to a chart, and not according to the animal printed on their own zodiac keychain. They are the fifteen extra days hiding inside the 2015 row of the table above.
This is not a technicality for its own sake. A whole year of content is being built around a label, and it is worth knowing which of the two lines that label counts from.
What the Goat year contains
Strip the customs and 2027 is a fixed set of relations between one branch and the others. These do not drift year to year; 未 is 未 in every cycle.
| Relation | With | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 午 → 未 | Horse | 六合, six harmony |
| 丑 → 未 | Ox | 六冲, direct clash |
| 子 → 未 | Rat | 六害, harm |
| 戌 → 未 | Dog | 刑 punishment, and 破 break |
| 亥 · 卯 → 未 | Pig, Rabbit | 三合, three harmony, wood |
Two of those deserve a sentence each.
The harmony with the Horse is why 2026 and 2027 get read as a pair rather than as two unrelated years. 午未 is one of the six harmonies, and the two animals sit next to each other on the wheel for that reason, not by accident of ordering.
The clash with the Ox is the cleanest test in the system. 丑 and 未 are directly opposite on the compass, six positions apart, which is precisely what 冲 means. If you ever need to check a claim that two animals clash, that is the rule: opposite means six apart, and nothing else qualifies.
What people actually do
The practices attached to a Goat's Ben Ming Nian are not Goat-specific. They are the general kit, applied in 2027 to one twelfth of everybody.
Red is the constant: a red belt, red socks, a red cord on the wrist. The item is traditionally given by an older relative rather than bought for yourself, and that rule is the part with real social content — it turns the object into a transfer between generations instead of a purchase.
The Tai Sui tablet and the 太岁符 belong to the four-relation group as a whole, not to Ben Ming Nian alone. That is another place where the categories blur in practice, and the blur is not harmless: it is how an Ox ends up reading Goat-year advice and concluding that their zodiac year has arrived.
What none of it does is tell you what will happen. A red belt marks a year, and marking a year is something people genuinely do — the way a birthday is marked. It is not a mechanism. A page that turns it into one, with a score out of ten for career and love, has left the system it claims to be explaining.
Check which side of the line you fall on
If your birth year is on the list and you were born well inside a Goat year, the table above is the whole answer and there is nothing left to settle.
The boundary question only arises for two narrow groups: people born between 4 February and 19 February 2015, and anyone born in the first two days of February in any Goat year before that. For everyone else the animal is not in dispute.
If your date does sit near a boundary, the reliable way to settle it is to read the year pillar rather than the animal. GPTbazi's chart uses the solar term for that, not the festival, and shows you which pillar it used — so the answer comes with its own working.
