The judgment

亨。利贞

Two lakes share an edge and the water moves between them without a wall. A joy this easy to raise goes as fast as it comes, so what lasts is the exchange behind it.

The image

Two lakes touch and the surface between them stays level. Joy that is shared keeps its level without being managed.

The six lines

Read from the bottom up. A line that moves is read here, and read again in the hexagram it becomes.

  1. 初九Line 1
    和兑,吉

Joining in harmony at the very start, intentions simple; this step is not yet steady, so do not push the bond too far too soon.

    Marked in the textauspicious

  2. 九二Line 2
    孚兑,吉,悔亡

Approaching others from a settled inner place, the trust is something you hold first, not something the other side must keep proving.

    Marked in the textauspiciousregret clears

  3. 六三Line 3
    来兑,凶

Leaning in only to please, placing yourself too low, once this step is taken there is no easy way back.

    Marked in the textominous

  4. 九四Line 4
    商兑,未宁,介疾有喜

Weighing one side against the other, the heart stays suspended, never settling. Set that pull apart, kept off by a wall, and the sickness is cut off on the far side; what hung unsettled lands, turning into a glad outcome.

  5. 九五Line 5
    孚于剥,有厉

Holding the central place yet trusting what quietly erodes you; the closer you lean, the deeper the cost.

    Marked in the textdanger

  6. 上六Line 6
    引兑

At the very end, still pulling others along to keep it going; nothing draws it back, so let the hold loosen.
