Hexagram 9
Small Taming
Wind over Heaven
The judgment
One yielding line sits among five strong ones. Small restraints hold the movement together; clouds gather and no rain has fallen.
The image
Wind runs across the sky and the clouds thicken without breaking. Restraint, applied in small amounts, is what holds the shape.
The six lines
Read from the bottom up. A line that moves is read here, and read again in the hexagram it becomes.
Line 1
At the start, step back onto the path already known; footing stays sure and the retreat costs little.
Marked in the textauspicious
Line 2
Led back by another hand, walking in company; the middle position means the direction need not be set alone.

Line 3
The wooden pad under the axle has slipped off, the wheels spin free and go nowhere. Under one roof, the two turn their faces away, unwilling even to look at each other, resentment splitting one table in two.
Line 4
Something solid is held within; the danger of blood has passed, and the fear has walked out the door. What was jammed in the chest loosens, and a person can stand firm.
Marked in the textno blame
Line 5
Holding on without letting go, lifting those beside you along; the weight in hand steadies the whole situation.
Line 6
The rain has fallen and stopped, the load still carries. The woman keeps to her place, yet the tight binding stays taut; the moon is nearly full, fullness at its edge. Pressing further on now, the footing loses all measure.
